SEO - a digital marketing buzzword (for good reason)!

There’s a lot of talk in the financial business about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). But what exactly does it mean? And what the heck is a SERP? Whatever does a GMB do? Myriad’s here to help you demystify the alphabet soup of SEO. Use this guide below when you come across an unfamiliar term related to digital marketing.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization. When someone searches ‘your business’ + ‘my area,’ how long does it take for your business to appear? If you are search engine optimized, it should be on or close to the first page.

SERPS: Search Engine Results Page

Meta Descriptions: An HTML tag that summarizes a webpage’s content.

GMB: Google My Business

Ranking: A website’s position in the search engine results page.

Traffic (organic): The breakdown of users who found your site organically.

Crawl: The process of finding new or updated pages to add to Google results.

Keyword: Words or phrases describing your product that you choose to help determine when and where your ad can appear.

Backlink: Links from one website to a page on another website.

Alt tag: The written copy that appears in place of an image on a webpage in the event the image fails to load.

Sitemap: A file where you provide information about pages, videos, and other files on your site, and relationships between them.

Domain: The form of your organization’s name on the web and a standard internet suffix such as .com or .edu.

SSL Certificate: A digital certificate that authenticates a website’s identity and enables an encrypted connection. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to memorize these terms all at once! These are simply here to help you further navigate the digital marketing world. Myriad can help you too. Contact marketing@myriadas.com to start optimizing your place on the search results page!
